Uranium mining in meghalaya
Related to country: India

I wish to draw the attention of the present status of our state. When will this uranium nightmare end?? It is very easy for the Govt. to say that we need development... but at what cause!! Bringing development at the expense of the poor villagers who don’t even know what this uranium is. These people due to poverty and difficulties in various fields wanted development at any cause and this is the right time for the Govt. to brainwash them.
What is the government statement on health and environmental hazard? We know that they knew about the serious threat but they kept on denying. They are not at all concern about they dreadful effect of uranium once the mining is on process. They kept numb once the topic of radiation is raised. Their answer is “there will be effect on health and environment”. Are they scientist or medical officers? Some of the politicians do not know what actually uranium is. It is shock to say that some do not even have proper educational qualifications! What will these leaders teach us about the effects of uranium? All of them start to gathered information about uranium just when they heard about the Rs. 209 crores project of Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL).
We can clearly see how the 209 crore has made some people crazy. These people will do anything just as to make sure that a part of the 209 crore will somehow go into their pockets. This is politics all about… (1) Fear of losing the chair (2) greed for money (3) hunger for power.
My question is why do we need development with UCIL money?? It seems that all schemes have disappeared. If the Govt. really cares about development, they should have done it right from the years before. But what to say, even those in power are busy developing their individual well-being. The real development for them is just for one-self and not for the state.
Dear people of the state it is time for us now to stop and put an end to the evils which will be spread by this 209 crore later. We the shillong people, who have seen, heard and know much about this issue therefore make a right decision and save our land and people from the clutch of those who wanted to sell anything just for the sake of the 209 crore project.
“Our land will not be the next Jadukuta”
